About the Project
To date, the project has held two meetings. In October, 2003 the first meeting took place in Madison at the University of Wisconsin-Extension, where initial group discussion began. In October, 2004, most from the initial group, as well as many new participants, gathered together at Penn State. The goal of the project is to engage the faculty and staff, both content specialists and digital technology support specialists, in collaboratively exploring and building digital technology skills, resources, and services.
We know that history is replete with missed opportunities and that technology is only part of the equation. When we talk with faculty there is a genuine excitement and many questions about how it can work. What we have realized is that we alone do not have that answer. We need to embark on a journey of discovery with faculty. We can show them what is technically possible. They can show us what is academically needed and together we can chart a course for the future. This project engages faculty and staff in exploring the new opportunities that digital technologies provide for enhancing the formal and informal educational goals of our institutions. Classroom experiences, research dissemination and community engagement can be significantly enhanced through informed use of digital technology. We are articulating processes for involving higher education faculty in public broadcasting and for using public broadcasting more effectively to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century. |
